One in nine people will experience eczema at some time in their life and it is one of the most common conditions in the UK. [Simpson, 2009]
Whilst emollients are recognised as the mainstay of management for dry skin conditions, only 51% diagnosed with eczema are prescribed an emollient [de Lusignan, 2021] and often not in the quantities needed for optimal effect. [Moncrieff, 2013]
Does this matter? Does primary care have the resources to manage eczema more effectively? What are the long term costs of sub optimal management?
